Wau governor encourages farming

By Ngor Deng Matem

The Government of Western Bahr el Ghazal state has encouraged the crop plantation to boost agricultural production.

Delivering the message of Easter celebrations to Christians, Governor Sarah Clerto Rial stated that the state is secure and therefore everyone should focus on farming.

“Security in the state is a top priority for everyone.  People need to be sure that they have peace of mind to go on with everyday life without fear of violence or threats to their lives. It is to be noted with confidence that WBGS has been more secure and stable for the past two years than ever before” said Sarah.

“We want to focus into the future and strengthen our economy to provide the much-needed services to all.  As such we are calling all our citizens to invest in agriculture.  Last year we called upon our citizens, and we have seen high level production.  We would like to do even more for this year and years to come.  Majority of our population depends on agriculture, and it is important that we develop the agricultural sectors. All of us must farm, and we should encourage private sector and local farmers’ productivity, all of these actions in order to fight hunger” said added.

Sarah further stressed that people have to be creative in order to be self-reliant.

“We all know the economic difficulty that the country – and the world — is facing and this will force us to be creative on how to provide services with limited or no funds in hand.

In times like these, we need to crack our heads, bring on the positive energy so we can provide the services we promise.  It will not be easy, but we can do it if we put our hearts, heads, and hands together” she emphasized.

Last week, President Salva Kiir during the swearing in of officers of unified command army, said that provision of humanitarian aid has encouraged laziness and he encouraged people to produce their own food as before.
