Speaking to No. 1 Citizen Daily Newspaper, the Executive Director of Leer county Paul Kuong Yoak confirmed the report including MSF staff.

“49 people were killed and 320 women and girls raped by two armed youths in both counties of Mayiandit and Koch county. We identified people that were killed from date 8 April up to 12 April 2022,” Paul reported.

Paul Kuong urged the investigation committee that was formed to find the root cause of the violence that led to the death of a big population in Leer County.

Kuong said the 320 women and girls raped in Leer County are still in Leer hospital for treatment and hoping that they recover quickly. He also emphasized that this is now a time for peace but not war.

“We requested Governor Manytuil to communicate with the commissioners in the two counties of Mayiandit and Koch to advise them not to attack Leer county civilians,” he said.
