Commissioner Bans Discos & Bar Joints

The Commissioner of Magwi County of Eastern Equatoria State has over the weekend issued a local order banning celebrity activities such as music concerts, disco and bar joints in the area.

The County Commissioner David Otto Remson issued the order following a joint meeting held on Thursday last week between the youth leadership and the County leadership in regards to immoral practices that were registered, which make young people to misbehave.

Speaking during the meeting, the County Commissioner David Otto Remson said that most entertainment activities in the County have paved ways to criminal activities, resulting into breakout of youth from their families as well as parental disrespect.

“I need to inform the entire youth in Magwi county without wasting time since we have registered a number of immoral activities and criminal acts in the county that has so far spoiled many youths. I am declaring today a banning of dancing in Magwi being the source of bad agencies against our lives. This order shall be in operation till further notice,’’ the Commissioner said.

However, Mr. Otto directed the County security forces, local chiefs and the youth leaders to immediately execute the order without waste of time.

“All the county security forces, the youth leaders, community leaders through the chiefs should with immediate effect implement the order to enable mitigation of criminal activities in the county,’’ he said.

The Commissioner also urged the communities in Magwi to put aside tribal differences and work in harmony towards peaceful coexistence in the County.

He said that the residents of the County should work towards development of the County.

“Education cannot wait for anybody. I want to tell you that Magwi is not only for Acholi or Madi but for all of us. Work hard to embrace unity among yourselves as people of Magwi county thus development shall take place,” he said.

Nevertheless, most residents welcomed the initiative taken by the commissioner banning the celebrity activities, which they said it had so far sent many girls into premature marriages resulting into returns back home.

Oyet Simon Robert, a resident of Magwi area commended the commissioner’s initiative terming it, a positive step to transforming Magwi into a better place.

“I am happy with the commissioner’s order banning disco activities in Magwi. The step is not for bad but for the safety of our lives. This will safeguard us from the constant insecurity we have in the county. It is also important for the security to be alert upon anything happening in Magwi county,” he said.
