Gov’t, UNMISS discuss status of peace implementation

The First Vice President for the Republic of South Sudan met with the Deputy Head of Mission for the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) on Thursday in his office to discuss evolution and the challenges facing the implementation of the Revitalised Peace Agreement.

The meeting essentially emphasized greatly on the graduation and the unification of the forces as required by chapter two of the agreement.

In a statement to the media after the meeting, Guang Cong, the Deputy Head of Mission for the United Nations Mission in South Sudan said that UNMISS appreciated the April 3rd –Agreement that led to the unification of the Military Command and the appointment of the Unified high Command structure as well as the official launch of the commission for public consultation on the Truth, Reconciliation and Healing.

“We appreciate the agreement that led to the Unification of Unified high Command and the appointment for the leadership of the Unified Command Structure as well as the launch for commission for Truth, Reconciliation and healing,” Guang said.

Furthermore, Guang said that the United Nations Mission in South Sudan was concerned about the insecurity witnessed at the sub-national levels especially in some parts of Unity and Upper Nile State.

However, he called on all the parties involved in the implementation of the Revitalised Peace Agreement to exert more efforts towards ending violence and recommit to the full implementation of the peace agreement with uniform ideas and thoughts.

However, Guang stated that the United Nations Mission in South Sudan remained committed to supporting the progress towards implementation of the peace agreement for the country to experience total and everlasting peace.

In his part, Dr. Riek Machar Teny commended the leadership of the United Nations Missions in South Sudan towards the efforts they invest in ensuring that South Sudan and her people restore everlasting peace and live in harmony with one another.
