The Director General for Horticulture, Agriculture, Forestry and Environment Edmond Taban Gogo based in Yei said that the department of agriculture is doing better because most of the people in Yei River County are agriculturalists.

Edmond believed that when the situation improved, Yei will go back to the previous years when they used to produce enough food for consumption and for sale.

“The department of agriculture here in the ministry of agriculture is doing its best because Yei is an agricultural land and most of the people in Yei are agricultural farmers. If the situation improves, I think Yei will go back to the seventies and eighties when they used to produce enough food for sale and consumption. If the security improves, Yei will go back to the previous years and also cash crops like coffee were flourishing in the area except that because of the insecurity some of the agriculturists have grown old and some have died but still the department of agriculture continues,” he said.

He encouraged young men to continue joining the sector and farmers to continue despite all the risks involved in agriculture.

“We encourage young men to join our sector then also farmers should continue with all this risks they face in agriculture and let them also not do selection of crops let them produce all. If it is coffee, vegetables, cereals and if they can produce even coffee let them continue. I have told them not to plant ten acers before but let them plant only hundred trees and what we want is easy management,” he points.

The Director General for Horticulture, Agriculture, Forestry and Environment was giving his message to the community in Yei River County of Central Equatoria State.
