A 28-year-old woman accused of killing her three children was arrested in Aweil East County yesterday.
According to the police reports, the woman took her children to the river to drown them due to lack of feeding at home.
The suspect was among the residents who fled Abyei due to the ongoing conflict.
For official records, the police Spokesman in Northern Bahr El Ghazal, Captain Guot Guot Akol described the incident.
“She was married by an old man called Amou Kuer Dau for her dead son Lual Malong Lual according to tradition. The old lady promised to take full responsibility of her but she will be given somebody with whom they were to bear children. She was given to a man called Awer Malong Awer with whom they bore children. They bore four children but she was in Abyei working there and during the Abyei-Twic conflict she returned home to her village called Mabil-Tokyiep in Aweil East County,” The captain narrated.
“Now the living conditions became worse and the old lady couldn’t provide anything anymore. Before the fateful day, she went to Awer to ask for food but Awer told her in an aggressive voice that he is not responsible for her feeding. Her responsibility was just to give him children. She went back to the old lady and boom, she got another blast from the old lady saying, am I the one sleeping with you? She got annoyed and decided to do that evil act,” Captain Guot further narrated the condition.
