Market prices hike in Mundri amidst healthcare shortage

Citizen in Mundri West County of Western Equatoria State are experiencing high price of food commodity in the market following the lack of inadequate health worker in Mundri Primary Health Care Unit.

Speaking to No. 1 Citizen Daily Newspaper on Friday, Mama Ever, one of the residents of Mundri said the prices of food item have increased in Mundri central, although citizen depends on subsistence farming.

However, she appealed for urgent humanitarian assistance, saying that people of Mundri are suffering locally.

Another resident, Grace Sunday who went to Mundri market said that the food items are very expensive compared to the pervious price. She appealed to vendors to reduce prices of food items like cassava flour, maize, as some of this food items are being produced locally.

Nevertheless, Mundri West Chamber of Commerce, Ismail Basha confirmed the increase in prices in the market, saying it is a result of high taxes imposed by government along Juba – Mundri, Nimule – Juba roads.

“The government is increasing taxes in the check points and if the government cannot reduce the taxes on road the traders will not reduce the price of food items,” said Ismail Basha.
