Peace tournament kicks off in Yei River town

A Peace Tournament bringing together different distinct communities of South Sudan including foreigners living in Yei River County to poster peaceful co-existence has kicked off in Yei town on Sunday.

Poru Johnson, the Youth Chairman of Yei River County confirmed to No. 1 Citizen Daily Newspaper on Sunday that the peace tournament organized by a national organization “Reconcile International” in Yei River County of Central Equatoria State started on Sunday at Yei Freedom Square.

Reconcile International organized the football peace tournament seeing into it that the young people are brought together for the sake of peace involving all communities and the 64 tribes including foreigners.

The Tournament is meant to foster peaceful coexistence amongst the different communities living in Yei

“As we all know that Yei is one of the cosmopolitan towns in South Sudan consisting of 64 tribes including foreigners that are here and this is the best tool that reconcile in Yei and this tournament has brought different categories of people,” Johnson said.

“The tournament has brought different groups of young people especially people hailing from Morobo Lainya, Kajo-Keji, Western Equatoria, Upper Nile, Bahr-el-Ghazal and are all living within Yei River county” Said Poru.

“It works best for what Reconcile has organized to bring all people from different states to promote peace and unity among others looking into the challenges youths face during conflict situations so this kind of activity engage the youths to focus together and he feel exited to see people from different origin to come together,” he added.

Karaba Lawrence one of the spectators watching the tournament witnessed happiness printed on the faces of community members the first day of the peace tournament.

He pointed that there were allot of questions from spectators in the beginning concerning the peace football games saying it was amazing to see that today (Sunday) reconcile brought all the youth together for the peaceful tournament.

He added that peace comes and starts with us not from all of them.
