The Director General for horticulture agriculture, forestry and environment in Yei River County, Edmond Taban Gogo said the department of agriculture is planning to offer training opportunities to young farmers in Yei River County of Central Equatoria State to empower them with mobility.

Gogo noted that some of the young farmers are not literate to farming that is why there is a great need for agricultural training in specific fields of crops farming.

“We need to train these farmers some of them are illiterate, we need to bring them down and put them for one, two or three days, training them on specific fields or crops, what we call propagation then the five strategy which is the setting of demonstration plots mainly for training, apart from capacity buildings which can be done for the ones who have no any knowledge concerning agricultural practices, sometimes you can group them into classes,” he says

He said that they are lobbing for support from NGOs that can bring bicycles to the farmers for them to transport their goods from the garden to home and from home to the market

“We are lobbying for other non-governmental organizations that can bring bicycles just they go and loan them and pay, the department of agriculture must be responsible for that. The farmers transport; from the garden to the house and from the house to the market” Taban said.

He stressed that the famers need to be availed with any transport means that they can get, be it bicycle or any other means.

“We are also lobbying from other NGOs that can loan some bicycles to farmers and pay later, the department of agriculture must be responsible for that,” Taban underscored.
