The health unit at Kitgum municipality has on Thursday received 683 health kits to boost health upkeep in the village. The commissioning took place at the premises of Kitgum Local Government.
The health educator in the office of District Health officer, Mrs. Atim Winy Fred said, she got the health kits from the ministry of health in Kampala through commissioner, Mr. Richard Kabanda in partnership with World Health Organization and United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF).
She noted that the 683 kits contained 8 different items to aid health team while performing their duties and providing service to the community.
“The items include; clinical thermometer, gumboots, aprons, face mask, jab aid, and medicine boxes,” the health educator said.
Mrs. Atim further said that, in total there are 1,660 health workers to reach in 22 sub-counties and deliver the items so as to motivate health team to carry out their duties as required.
Meanwhile, the health assistant in Pager division, Mr. Orach George Fry recommended the health workers and urged them to work with love and kindness.
He also said that the health workers should respect their reputation by not misusing the items distributed to them for other purposes like wearing aprons, T-shirts and end up selling them in market places.
Similarly, Mr. Orach told health team to use proper way while approaching their clients, especially during door-to-door mass vaccinations where they sometimes faced rejection from the public.
Besides, the health team supervisor Mrs. Akwero Janet a resident of Hill Top said that the village teams should embrace any items distributed to them heartily.
She said that donors often change the trend of items to be released, however she appealed for umbrellas and raincoats to be included in the next items to ease work during rainy season.
