Robbers kill NGO worker in Aweil

Police in Northern Bahr el Ghazal state said that suspected robbers have killed an NGO worker in Aweil South County.

Major General Philip Madut Tong, the police commissioner of NBGs said that three suspects have been arrested.

“Augustino Akuein Dut was working with NGO Action Against Hunger which is known as ACF in Aweil East County. He visited his home in Aweil South and upon his return, he was ambushed by these suspects in Wathmok area. He was stoned at the jaw while on the motorbike. He was taken to Juba and passed on this morning 27th May 2022,” General Madut explained.

Gen. Madut further expressed that the state police were deployed in the scene to prevent further crimes.

For his part, the commissioner of Aweil South county Luka Thel Thel urged the communities to allow the government handle the case

“After hearing this sad death, the relatives attacked the houses of the suspects and burnt them down and wanted to revenge. As a result, I as the commissioner of the area came here with forces to calm the situation. We talked with community to accept the government intervention to manage the case,” Luka Thel said.

According to Luka, the preliminary investigation conducted shows the robbers confessed that the intention was to take the money from the deceased.

“They said that they have been monitoring this person for long because they had information that he worked for the NGO and therefore he must have the money. This is what they said during the investigation,” Luka stressed.

Luka assured the relatives of the deceased that immediate justice shall prevail when the funeral is conducted.
