Sports for peace, culture event competition starts in Aweil

The Sports for Peace and Culture event competitions has been launched by Empower Youth Africa (EYA) in Aweil West County of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State.

 The competition organized under the theme “Youth Dare for Peace” was meant to bring young people together in a bid to embrace societal unity and peaceful existence.

The Executive Director of Empower Youth Africa Organization, Garang Athian Deng, said that the activity was meant to foster positive collaboration between Empower Youth Africa and civilian youth so that they work together.

“It is not just sports for fun. We wanted to cement the relationship through the activities like sports. It is something that creates a pathway for community policing in Aweil West County to keep peace in the neighbourhood,” he explained.

Duang Dhieu Duang, Paramount Chief of Gomjuer said sporting activities were necessary to boost societal growth without a doubt.

“We need to embrace and work for it. We thank everyone for cheering with us,” Duang applauded.

However, the Acting Youth Chairperson of Gomjuer East Payam of Aweil West County, Machol Aterdit urged the South Sudanese to join hands and work for the welfare of the society.

“This is the social-cohesion building where you bring young people together to know themselves and interact. It is also important that it happened here in Aweil West County,”Aterdit stressed.

He encouraged the young generation to build them and work for the betterment of society.

“Something must bring people together and when people come together, great things happen. So, sports can bring people together from all walks of life and the people can know themselves,” he added.

He elaborated that it is a high time for the young people to build themselves in a bid to build social unity, and also try to build one another for better future.

He expressed his gratitude and appreciation to a national organization – Empower Youth Africa and the state government for organizing this blissful event.

Empower Youth Africa, is a non-governmental organization that champions the program which brings citizens together across the country and get to know one another.

The activity was conducted through the financial support from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and Sweden Sverige.
