Over 30 journalists attend training in Torit

Over thirty practicing journalists have started a three-day media outreach training in Torit, Eastern Equatoria State.

The three-day training is organized by AMDISS through funding from USAID and MDI to build the capacity of media personnel across the State.

The Executive Director for AMDIS, Mr. Michael Duku said most of the journalists were drawn from different media houses across the State, towns of Magwi and Torit respectively.

He said journalists will be equip with knowledge of media law and ethics, conflict and sensitive reporting, gender-based violence plus trauma healing.

Mr. Michael said they had knowledgeable personnel credible facilitator who are ready to deliver to the expectations of all the required knowledge by attending journalists.

Meanwhile, the State Minister of Information and Communication, Patrick Oting Cyprian has applauded AMDISS for choosing Eastern Equatoria for holding such productive training for its journalist.

He has encouraged the practicing journalist in the State to work in cooperation to help sell the positive image of the state to outsiders.

Mr. Oting Cyprian assured AMDISS of security stability within the state, and called for peaceful staying in the state capital, Torit.

The minister also called on the media institutions to continue providing their support to the practicing journalists by granting them some space for training at media development institute based in Juba.

Moreover, Mr. Oting assured the journalists in the State that, over fifty personnel will be sent by the state government for training in the forthcoming intake.

In addition, the State Director General in the Ministry of Information and Communication Auxillio Odume commended AMDISS for their initiative to train State’s journalists on media issues.

The official has urged the media institution to support women’s development in media sector as he witnessed limited number of women undertaking the jobs to their counter colleagues, the male sex.

Auxillio stressed that, gender equality needs to be encouraged to enhance progress in all sectors opposed to the latter days, where women were not given right to have a say.

This is the second training organize by AMDISS in the state since 2019 that was hold in Magwi to be hold again this month of June 2022.
