The Transitional National Legislative Assembly is asking the executive branch of transitional government of National Unity to intervene and resolve the rampant inter-communal violence including alarming deterioration of the country’s economy.
This urgent matter of public concern arose during the last funeral rites prayers for the soul of Late Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Peter Manawa Gatkuoth who died on the 19.6.2022 in Cairo Egypt.
Speaking during the event, Nathaniel Oyet who is the Acting Speaker of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly (R-TNLA) said the on-going inter-communal violence have claimed lives of many innocent citizens and dislodged thousands from their homes.
He stated that the Parliament at their level is trying their best to ensure that those continuous ethnic circles of violence come to an end through the intervention of the executive at the R-TGoNU.
“We in the National Transitional Legislative Assembly are so disturbed by the persistent inter-communal violence, cattle raiding and revenge attacks in most parts of our country namely in Warrap, Abyei Area, Lakes State, Eastern Equatoria State, Central Equatoria and Jonglei State’’ Oyet pitied the situation.
He further underscored that the continuous inter-communal violence, cattle raiding and persistent recession of the country’s economy has created severe suffering to the citizens as many starve, to death with hunger and diseases while others remained displaced.
“This has led to unnecessary loss of lives and we urge the Executive of the Revitalized government of National Unity to intervene with the aim of saving lives of our citizens. The alarming rise of commodity prices in the market are disheartening. The prices of the basic commodities have shot up all of the sudden leaving many citizens to undergo serious starvation in Juba as well as most parts of the ten States in the country.
“The intervention of the transitional government for national Unity should ensure restoration or making prices of essential commodities to reach equilibrium level through Central Market system’’ he said.
The Acting Speaker of R-TNLA reiterated that the Country will receive total stability only if the executive members, right from the presidency come out with concrete decisions to resolve the disputes among communities no matter how the reasons might be.
“This country is torn apart by number of tragedies where every ethnic group wants their rights given through force. The Parliament frequently deliberate burning issues that all the government organs jointly need to resolve. If we work together, the random casualties would be brought to an end’’ Oyet hinted.
