AU backs South Sudan peace process

The chairperson of the African Union (AU) who is also the President of Senegal has manifested readiness of the Union to aid South Sudan towards the implementation of the Revitalized peace agreement.

This came following a meeting between President Salva Kiir Mayardit and the visiting AU chair and Senegalese President Macky Sall with the accompanying delegation to the President’s Office.

Speaking during the meeting yesterday, Macky Sall the AU chairperson reiterated that much efforts are needed by the parties to the agreement to ensure smooth implementation of the peace agreement to mitigate problems that hindered development in the country.

“We have also come here as the African Union to help you build peace through countries that work together as our partners. I want also come to let you know that at bilateral level, I am ready to build cooperation with South Sudan. I am very happy that the Ministry of foreign affairs has signed an agreement for the establishment diplomatic relation.’’ said President Macky Sall.

He further said African Union is enthusiastic to ensure that the implementation of the peace agreement occur to enable the country move to a certain level of no hitches.

The Senegalese President pointed out that his presence in Juba is to support the peace process and work in solidarity to set an everlasting peace to the people of South Sudan and to improve a bilateral relationship with South Sudan towards economic and social cohesion in regard to being the President of Senegal.

“As Unique countries within the African Continent, AU is ready to work in Solidarity with the Republic of South Sudan. I have understood that South Sudan among other countries has many difficulties and I have come here to support the peace process in South Sudan. I have also met the First Vice President Dr. Machar and explained to him that our coming here is to consolidate peace” Sall noted.

At the same note Macky urged the Presidency to ensure slow but sure move towards the agreement since it takes time for a nation to be established and adjusted for better development.

“I would like to tell you that it takes time to build a nation that is why you have to take time and build something meaningful and with this, it will help you to solve the real problems of development’’ he echoed.

Meanwhile, President Salva Kiir Mayardit appreciated the coming of the Senegalese President who is AU’s sitting chair and welcomed the idea to aid the peace process and boost bilateral ties as the President of Senegal for the economic, political benefits of the two Countries.

“The bilateral relationship established now between the government of South Sudan and Senegal resurrects these ties and invites us to deepen cultural and economic exchange and political cooperation” said President Kiir.

“In this way, we can advance African integration between these two countries as one family centered at North and East Africa and the other family Centered in West Africa” he added.

“Our bilateral relationships will stand on what unified us above and beyond politics. Our relationship is not a shot term calculation but a profound kingship relation founded upon African principals that came from a long memory of where we came from and the vision of the future” Kiir underscored.
