Juvenile shot dead in Oguruny – Torit County

A Juvenile boy of about seventeen years old was shot dead in Oguruny village of Hiyala payam in Torit County of Eastern Equatoria state over the weekend.

The innocent boy , identify as Akalo Emmanuel was shot as they went for bathing in a nearby stream with his fellow colleagues in Oguruny village of Hiyala payam on Friday.

Authorities said the incident occurred when unknown gunmen shot at the four boys who were bathing, killing one and three others managed to escape.

Torit County has registered three cases of killings in less than just a week.

On Thursday, a businessman known as Gabriel manager of New Nation Hotel was shot in his Hotel and later died at the State Hospital as a result of serious gunshot injury.

Meanwhile on Tuesday a local Presbyterian elder leader identified as Goodwill Angelo, was also killed while at his home in Hai. Ingas residential area in Torit town.

Cristo Otida, the sub chief of Oguruny Village stated that the late juvenile died on spot after unidentified criminals fired at them at around 7 PM but said the youth are investigating and following the footmarks of the killers.

He urged his community not to retaliate incase footmarks entered a certain location saying the Government will do its role in apprehending the culprits and holding them accountable of their acts.

“The incident happened yesterday at 7 pm to us here, these children was going to bath, they were going to bathe and they are shot from there, those who came and shoot this boy, we still don’t know the youth are still following” he said.

“Those children were four, one person is killed and the body was taken up to Torit there, the boy is call Emmanuel Akalo, his age is 17 and he was shot from the Mountain there when they were going to bathe this is where they were shot, they are still following from where does these people come from, they are still following” Sub chief Otida explain.

Sub Chief Mr. Otida called on the youth who are following the footmarks, to the villages where the suspected criminal ran to report back and report to the state government to finalize the issue.

Hiyala payam of Eastern Equatoria for the last five months have been experiencing relative stability across the villages within the payam despite usual cattle raiding killing happing in the villages.

The state government is still managing rampant shooting and killing within the state capital that has so far claimed two lives of a hotel manager and a pastor who were all shot from their residences in Torit town.
