At least three people have been killed while one sustained serious gunshot injuries when youth clashed with military officers in Ikwoto County.
According to Honourable Silivia Imoya, a Member of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA) representing Ikwoto County, the two groups clashed at a local drinking joint in Hai Turuju residential area.
Reliable sources told No.1 Citizen Daily Newspaper that area County Commissioner fled the scene after residents started baying for his blood. The source said the commissioner hid in a church compound after switching off his phone for fear of any repercussions.
She said the youth turned rowdy and took up their weapons before confronting the military officers.
Local authorities said the incident happened at around midday on Sunday as worshippers returned home from churches.
A soldier was among those shot along two civilians. The deceased were identified as Lomudang Mark, a prison warden, a warden with the Ministry of Wildlife only identified as Lololo and unidentified woman.
Lololo was reportedly attacked by the marauding youth who shot him dead on the spot as he returned home from his farm.
Mr. Lobuleng sustained serious gunshot injury and was rushed to Ishohe Hospital for medical treatment.
Over the past three months, cases of insecurity have been on the rise, a situation that has drastically affected supply and delivery of goods and services in the area.
Last week, two Boda-boda riders were killed while a third one sustained gunshot injuries in Tseretenya, Ikwoto County.
Odongi Joseph, the Paramount Chief in Ikwoto County says,“I think it’s true that yesterday at around mid-day the incident happened at a drinking place in a certain area called Hai Turuju”.
He said the incident happened when one of the soldiers was allegedly shot by the youth before his colleagues mobilized themselves to retaliate against the youth.
Odongi said investigations are currently underway to establish the root Course of the incident.
