The Ambassador of Norway to South Sudan yesterday visited Western Equatoria State to assess the food security situation.

She specifically sought to inspect agricultural and resilience projects funded by the Norwegian Government in the state.

Speaking to the media after the meeting with state officials, Ambassador Siv Kaspersen expressed her joy at the opportunity to witness the impact of projects funded by her government.

“I am happy to meet with Acting Governor and his team here in Yambio today, I explain to him why am here in Yambio, it was particular together with FAO to see the funding projects on agriculture and the resilience and I will also see some programs we do with women groups” said Ambassador Kaspersen.

The envoy said Norway will continue supporting the on-going peace process in South Sudan.

“Of course we had a very good conversation; we agreed that it is very important to work for peace because without peace no development can be achieved. It is important to provide food not only to Western Equatoria State but to the whole of South Sudan so we are looking at how we can promote peace, unity, dialogue and engage in peace process” she said.

State Minister for Information who is also the state government spokesperson, Isaac Mursal lauded the envoy for the visit and called on the government of Norway to support the state government in various ways.
