South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) convoy was allegedly attacked by armed civilians yesterday (Tuesday) while on their way to the restive Mayom County.

The incident allegedly happened in a remote village called Bieh Nyang Payam within Mayom County, Unity State at around 8:00AM.

Early this week, Mayom County Commissioner’s house was attacked by holdout group of the South Sudan People’s Movement/Army under renegade commander Stephen Buay Rolnyang.

The renegade SSPA commander in a press statement issued after the incident, later cautioned oil workers in Unity Sate to evacuate warning that the government will not protect them.

However, the Spokesperson of South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) Major Gen. Lul Ruai Koang responded that, Buay’s claims were empty threats.

Speaking to No.1 Citizen Daily Newspaper, the Executive Director of Mayom County of Unity State Gatdiet Gany confirmed the Tuesday morning attack on the SSPDF convey to Mayom County.

Gany said the SSPDF convoy was attacked on their way to Mayom by armed civilians, however he neither disclosed the number of casualties nor mentioned the person behind the armed civilians.

“Yes, there was an attack that happened this morning, the convey of the SSPDF was travelling from Juba to reach us here in Mayom, however it was attacked by some armed civilians, but I am still getting more information that is all I have for now,” affirmed the Executive Director, Mayom County.

Last week, the house of the late commissioner Gatluak was attacked and was burnt to ashes.

The same attack claimed the life of the Commissioner including his body guards and others that were staying in the house.

The government assured that the people behind the attack would definitely be found and apprehended and that they were few in number.
