Eastern Equatoria State Ministry of General Education and Instruction has suspended the Deputy Head teacher of Ikotos Secondary School suspected of killing SSPDF soldier in Hai Turuju residential area of Ikotos town last month.

The Deputy Head teacher identified as Omoi Valent Gasper was arrested over the weekend by the organized forces in Ikotos town on allegation that, he was behind the cause of the brutal killing that caused chaos amongst the civil and military population in Ikotos County.

Last month, violence emerged between civilians and army that led to the killing of one SSPDF soldier and two civilians that forced many to flee their homes for safety.

Authorities said the head teacher identified as Omoi Valent Gasper was arrested while buying air time in Ikotos main market.

Oboya Henry, the deputy director of education in Ikotos County said SSPDF soldiers arrested Omoi Gasper on Sunday evening and detained him in the military barracks.

He said the arrest of the teacher is scaring and creating fear among teachers as many will be forced to leave teaching for safety as he was too arrested but was later released.

“I was nearby him, they were just coming to the center and there were two teachers, one of the teachers was the head teacher of Ikotos primary school then that teacher who is arrested is for Ikotos Secondary School. He is teaching both so one of the person from this military barrack may be he was communicating with him then after his arrival, he was arrested and taken by the soldiers to the barrack. The real message about his arrest is not confirmed, yes he slept even in the prison even and teachers are not happy, even yesterday I was even arrested until I was taken up to the barrack,” Henry narrated.

Colonel Gatluak Lual, the SSPDF area commander in Ikotos County confirmed the arrest saying the teacher is currently under military custody awaiting trial.

He said SSPDF soldiers will continue launching an investigation to arrest those behind the two weeks tensions.
