Kiir fires Finance Minister, Central Bank Governor

President Salva Kiir Mayardit has on Thursday evening issued several presidential decrees in which he fired the Minister of Finance and Planning, Agak Achuil Lual, and replaced him with the former Governor of the Bank of South Sudan Dier Tong Ngor.

In another separate decree Kiir also sacked the Governor Bank of South Sudan Moses Makur Deng without immediately naming his successor and rather directed the first Deputy Governor of the Bank of South Sudan to act as the Governor.

The two officials in charge of the Country’s lucrative government monetary institutions were axed in a number of Presidential Decrees read over the State run South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC), during Thursday evening news bulletin.

President Kiir dismissed the duo without giving any reason for their release from office, as usual. However, one thing is clear the ailing economic and hyperinflation characterized with hike in commodities prices and the runaway foreign exchange rate has been a headache to the two officials as the citizens cry for rescue from the government to stabilize the economic.
