The Governor of Unity State convened and chaired a one day peace and security conference in Unity State’s Mayom County in Makien Payam following the series of security incidents in the area, the Office of the Governor has reported.

The one day conference chaired by Governor Manytuil brought together traditional chiefs and eleven Payam administrators in Mayom County to discuss the general security situations of the County in the faces of heinous incidents of insecurities.

The conference reflected on the general security situation of Mayom County particularly the incident that occurred on the 22nd and 26th of July 2022, which involved the killing of the Commissioner of Mayom County along others and the attack on army convoy that claimed scores of lives.

The conference summarily agreed on the five resolutions.

The meeting totally condemned in the strongest terms possible the killing of commissioner of Mayom County on the 22nd July 2022 and subsequent ambush of SSPDF convoy on 26th of July 2022 by criminals loyal to renegade Commander Gen. Stephen Buay Rolnyang.

The conference resolved for the collection of illegal firearms from the hands of civilians to avoid insecurity and random killing or revenge; banning the illegal trading of cattle and firearms between Mayom and Twic County until two authorities of Mayom and Twic County resolve the issue,

It also recommended the banning of illegal trading routes used by cattle raiders or looters from Mayom County to Warrap State, and from Warrap to Mayom County.

The conference revealed that most of inter-communal conflict, revenge killings and the killing of Commissioner were instigated by disgruntled politicians of Mayom County in Juba, eventually, the conference strongly warned politicians to refrain from divisive policies.

In a statement seen by No. 1 Citizen Daily Newspaper, the Governor of Unity State Joseph Manytuil Wejang urged the traditional chiefs and Payam administrators to disseminate peace and work collectively to improve the security situation in their respective Payams and Bomas.

Dr. Monytuil appreciated the people of Mayom County for resilience and cooperation with the organized forces during the counter insurgency operation against criminals of Stephen Buay Rolnyang that successfully resulted into capturing of the most notorious assailants who killed the commissioner of Mayom County”.

The conference was attended by the payam administrators, head and deputy chiefs, sub-chiefs and headmen of eleven payams of Mayom County.
