WES Government formed flood disaster response committee

The government of Western Equatoria State has on Wednesday formed a Disaster Committee to respond to flood issues in Greater Mundri after torrential rains devastated the area.

Early this month several flood related cases have been reported in the area of Mundri East, Mundri West and Mvolo counties of Western Equatoria State.

The State Government cabinet on Wednesday resolved to constitute the disaster response committee after Extra-Ordinary Council of Ministers to discuss the issues of state disaster which has affected many livelihoods in the state.

The meeting which was chaired by State Governor Lt. Gen. Alfred Futuyo Karaba formed a committee which comprised 14 members and the Committee is being headed by head of State government.

According to the Governor the Committee kick-start their work on Thursday by visiting the areas affected by the flood carry assessment and how the state together with development partners can support the flood victims.

Speaking to No.1 Citizen Daily Newspaper Bazia Tito Morris the acting Information Minister said the committee was set to start work on Thursday but because State government is working on budget for the committee meaning they won’t start as directed by the Governor.

“Yes yesterday (Wednesday) we had Extra-Ordinary Council of Ministers meeting regarding the flood issues of which state government agreed to form a committee who will manage the flood disaster in the state, but due to some financial issues, the committee will start their work within this week to see that people affected by flood received necessary response from the government” Bazia affirmed

Meanwhile the State government said they are in solidarity and commitment to support the community affected.
