The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) led by the First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar on Saturday started official registration and mobilization of its party members in Central Equatoria State.
Addressing the media during the inauguration, Peter Wani Elia Kulang, the Central Equatoria State SPLM-IO Chairman said the registration aims at preparing the party for the upcoming national elections slated for 2024.
“The benefit of one having a membership card is when it comes to the time for election if one is to stand in the constituency then the party has to consider you as the full member and you will have all the rights for the political exercise,” he said.
Wani is calling upon all the members of the SPLM-IO in Central Equatoria State to go and register, saying the form for registration is for everyone interested to register for the party.
“I am calling on all the members who come from different states, the ten states and the three administrative areas in Juba here to also come and fill this form, these forms are not meant for the members of Central Equatoria alone but it’s for all the members of the SPLM-IO irrespective of where they come from,” he added.
“We are declaring the official registration of the membership in Central Equatoria State open and also welcoming everybody who is wishing to join the SPLM-IO to come and register at the SPLM-IO office located in Tongpiny which is Juba Nabari opposite the Bilpham Bridge in Munuki,” Wani further added.
The Central Equatoria State SPLM-IO Chairman stated that exercise is to ensure that the party knows its party members adding that this exercise is always done for every member to be considered as the full member of a particular party.
“The SPLM-IO is a party that was declared in 2013 and the process of filling the form is obvious in any party so although you have not filled the form, we shall still consider you as the party cadre and as of today all of us are party cadres.”
“The forms we are filling, we shall also instruct the six counties in Central Equatoria State to also carry the same exercise and officially open registration in the six counties,” Wani hinted.
