The Union of Journalists in Western Bahr el Ghazal is urging the government and their security apparatus to ensure that there is justice and safety for journalists from crimes against journalists in the state.
The State union made the call yesterday as the country joined the World stand to support journalists and the media workers for their tireless and unrelenting efforts to serve the general public by informing, educating and also entertaining.
In the statement released to the media on Wednesday, Budgoni Stephen Musa the chairperson of the Union of Journalists in Western Bahr el Ghazal is calling upon the government of Western Bahr el Ghazal State and its security apparatus to make sure that journalists are protected as they carry out their national duty of making sure the public is informed.
“As UJOSS in WBGS, we observe this important day set by the UN General Assembly aiming at ending impunity for crimes against journalists and media workers, we call upon the government of Western Bahr el Ghazal State and its security apparatus to make sure that journalists are protected as they carry out their national duty of making sure the public is informed,” the statement partly read.
The Union of journalists in Western Bahr el Ghazal commended the journalists in the state for their hard work and determination to serve the general public by informing, educating and also entertaining.
“As UJOSS in WBGS celebrates this crucial day, it dedicates this day for the souls of the 5 journalists brutally killed along Wau-Raja road hoping that, the government will open an investigation to establish the aftermath of the incidents and to bring the culprits to book,” it added.
The UJOSS coordination office in Wau also urged the government to create conducive environment where journalists get access to information without any hindrance and harassment.
