Youth Minister accused of politicizing wrestling federation

By Tereza Jeremiah Chuei

The Chairperson of Wrestling Federation John Ajak Bullen has accused the national Youth Minister Albino Bol of appointing politicians as permanent members into the Wrestling federation.

He argued that the appointment should have been for a given duration like three months then followed by election, urging that the new members shouldn’t have been appointed as permanent.

He also revealed that minister Albino didn’t consult their office before appointing the new members.

Ajak went further by criticizing the new appointed members, citing that the new group knows nothing about wrestling which he sees as a clear indication that would make the federation end up not functioning.

He added that wrestling federation is all about culture, adding that he had planned to develop the federation to become active like football.

Ajak also advocated that the federation need non-Politicians.

The appointed Members are Mr. Samuel Wusong Gabriel as the President who is also the Secretary General of SPLM Youth League in Central Equatoria State.

Followed by Mr. Kuol Bol as the Secretary and also the current MP in Jonglei State Legislative Assembly and also Mr. James Lado Buli who is also former Information in the defunct Terkeka State.

In a Statement seen by No.1 Citizen Daily Newspaper, the Federation leaders stated that, “—the Ministerial order no (17) 2022 dated 26th October, 2022 issued by Dr. Albino Bol Dhieu, Minister of Youth and Sport purporting to reconstruct South Sudan Provisional Wrestling Federation… do hereby unequivocally denounce and reject it …because the Minister didn’t consider it wise to consult the leaders of the existing regional and state wrestling associations,”

However, Ajak told this paper that, “This culture is not anything to do with politics.”

He said he doesn’t know the new people brought into the federation adding that if they (ministry of youth) bring politicians then the federation will get spoiled.

“If Minister is not able to conduct the election then let him delegate me to be the president of this provisional team and then I will do the mobilization and do the election,”

Ajak added that he doesn’t like the minister’s idea of appointing politicians as permanent members which will jeopardize the performance of the federation.

However, when contacted, the Minister of Youth and Sport Albino Bol could not be immediately reached for comment on the matter.
