At least five people have been confirmed dead and 15 others wounded during an Inter-communal fight in Tonj East County of Warrap State on 18th and 19th of November 2022.

The Minister of Information and Communication in Warrap State, William Wol Mayom told No.1 Citizen Daily Newspaper that the clash was ignited by the elopement of a girl.

A man allegedly (eloped) ran away secretly with a girl but later refused to marry her.

The girl’s elopement then prompted the brothers of the girl to fight their supposed in-law.

Minister Wol said that the brothers of the girl in the process of their attack happened to kill an individual that wasn’t involved between the two families’ matter.

He said the killing of the innocent soul angered the deceased family prompting them to take up arms and attacked the family of the girl.

The minister furthered that this episode angered the community of the deceased to join forces with the family of the man that had refused the girl to fight the brothers of the girl’s family.

The escalated clashes later claimed the lives of four more summing up to five deaths and 14 people injured.

Wol stated that the government later intervened in the matter after which the girl along with the man and others were later taken to police custody where they are currently being kept.
