Four children died of measles in Lakes State

Health authorities in Lakes States have reported four measles deaths and nine (9) cases that tested positive for measles amid outbreak in 3 counties of Yirol West, Wulu and Cueibet respectively.

Four children have reportedly died of measles disease in Cueibet County of Lakes State.

The acting minister of health in Lakes State, Philip Taban Chir confirmed that the state health authorities have registered 4 deaths, and 9 positive cases of measles, since an outbreak was declared recently.

He said the total death toll from the measles outbreak is 4, with 9 positive cases of measles disease in Cueibet, Wulu and Yirol West counties.

“There is emergency assessment response from Health partners after I had convened an emergency meeting last week when the measles outbreak was reported and yesterday Monday, the team is on the ground with vaccine for immunization because we have a capacity of enough vaccines available in the store,” he said.

Taban however appealed to the national government to help in responding to the measles outbreak should there be any shortage of the measles vaccine in Lakes State.

Mawet Bol, Rumbek State hospital administrator and staff of the State ministry of health told No.1 Citizen Daily Newspaper yesterday that the ministry of health is planning to make an assessment following the declared measles outbreak in Rumbek East, Wulu and Cueibet counties respectively.
