By William Madouk Garang

The commissioner of Panyijiar County of Unity State, Gabriel Majiok Bol has finally been reinstated to the office after one month of suspension by the governor.

In statement seen by No.1 Citizen Daily Newspaper, the governor of Unity State, Joseph Manytuil Wejang lifted the suspension and gave commissioner Bol a green light to resume his duties.

“Governor Manytuil concluded his remarks by pardoning the Panyijiar County commissioner, Hon. Gabriel Majiok Bol to resume his duty as Commissioner of Panyijiar,” the governor’s office said in a statement.

Manytuil pardoned Mr. Bol on Wednesday during a reconciliatory meeting with Panyijiar political leaders to end political deadlock over civil administrative differences between the said commissioner and stakeholders.

He also urged the political leaders of Nyuong community to put interest of Panyijiar people first and concern of political parties later.

“I want you to unite together and to work for peace and unity among the people of Panyijiar. When we achieve peace our people will have services, they deserve from the State government, because without peace, no development,” said Manytuil.

The Governor stressed that all political parties must be allowed to exercise their democratic rights as long as it’s not a threat to peace and stability in the area.

Referring to Panyijiar as example, Manytuil said: “When SPLM-IO launched its membership registration in Bentiu town this year, it wasn’t disrupted by security organs.”

He called on Panyijiar County commissioner to allow political space for the political parties and carry out their political activities without hindrance.

For his part, the county commissioner of Panyijiar, Gabriel Majiok Bol appreciated the governor for convening the meeting with Panyijiar County political leaders and for bringing to an end the political stalemate.

Commissioner Majiok assured Governor Manytuil that he will work closely with all other political parties to maintain peace and stability in Panyijiar County, and also to deliver services.

In early November 2022, the governor of Unity State issued a gubernatorial decree suspending the SPLM-IO nominated commissioner of Panyijiar.

“Governor Manytuil has issued gubernatorial decrees for the suspension of Gabriel Majiok Bol as Panyijiar County Commissioner,” the governor’s office said in a statement issued earlier.

The suspension comes days after senior officials of the ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM-IG) faction blamed the commissioner of arresting dozens of their members including the SPLM chairperson in Panyijiar County.

However, the commissioner who is a member of the main armed opposition Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) denied the claim and said the SPLM officials were distributing uniforms to schoolchildren which he said is against the law.

The meeting was attended by Samaan Chotyier, State Legal Advisor and SPLM Secretary and Panyijiar County Executive Director among other political leaders of Panyijiar County.
