Army captures suspect behind murder of four in Warrap

The spokesperson of South Sudan Defense Forces (SSPDF) has revealed that the army had arrested the suspect behind the murder of three foreign citizens and a South Sudanese in Warrap State.

Speaking to the press yesterday, Lul Ruai, the spokesperson of the army said that the culprit was identified as an SSPDF soldier from tiger division.

“Last week, there was a report about the killing of four individuals; three foreigners from Syria, and one South Sudanese national. Our security forces went into action and were able to arrest the culprit known as private Yak Garang Yak,” Lul revealed.

“He is an SSPDF soldier from the Tiger Division. He is the prime suspect of for the killing of the four individuals; three were foreigners from Syria and one South Sudanese,” he said.

The spokesperson did not mention what prompted the soldier to kill the four deceased. He said he (soldier) is currently behind bars in Warrap State, awaiting transportation to Juba for further investigation.

“The reasons for the killings are not known but now that he is in our custody at Wundit, the headquarters of third infantry division in Northern Bahr-el-Ghazal State currently, further details will emerge. As we speak, plans are underway for him to be transported to Juba,” he stated.

Furthermore, Lul said that the Chief of Defense Forces Gen. Santino Deng Wol has already initiated paper work aimed at formation of emergency general court martial where the suspected culprit would be tried accordingly.

“The culprit will be tried here in accordance with our law of SPLA national act 2009,” he concluded.

According to the spokesperson, formation of the military court martial is the primary responsibility of the Chief of Defense Forces and it has to be approved by H.E Salva Kiir Mayardit in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of SSPDF and a supreme commander of all the organized forces.
