Wounded heroes’ driver behind bars over fatal road accident

A driver for the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) wounded heroes’ vehicle was reportedly arrested and detained pending investigation over road accident that left two passengers dead and two others sustained serious injuries in Lakes State.

The accident occurred at 3:00 PM in Aerial-teen of Yirol West County.

Acting Lakes state police spokesperson who doubles as deputy Director of traffic police in Lakes state, Col. Moses Machuoc Bol confirmed the fatal incident to No.1 Citizen Daily Newspaper yesterday.

He said the accident killed two people identified as 24-year-old, Aluakaluak Mabor Rin, and 30-year-old, Mading Majak Mading. While the two people who sustained critical injuries are Wel Rin Anhiak and Marial Manyiel Aru.

The acting police spokesperson said the SPLA wounded heroes’ driver identified as Majur Mayiek Mayom has been arrested and detained by police for investigation in Rumbek East County.

“The driver was driving SPLA wounded heroes’ car registration number 01828, and both the driver and the car arrested in Rumbek East County headquarters for investigation, and the 2 who sustained injuries were taken to hospital for treatment,” he said.

He said the accident occurred when a motorcycle carrying passengers had a head-on collision with the SPLA wounded heroes’ vehicle.

“The SPLA wounded heroes’ vehicle was traveling from Yirol West County to the State capital Rumbek and the two passengers who died during the motorcycle accident are all civilians,” he narrated.

He said it is forbidden under traffic police law for motorcycle driver to carry more than two passengers on a motorcycle.

“My advice to motorcyclists is to observe traffic police rules of not carrying more than 2 passengers on a motorcycle, this is one of our precautionary measures to everyone including civilians. It is very bad when accident happens,” he hinted.
