Kiir tells Mijak to construct 60km asphalt roads in Wau

President Salva Kiir Mayardit has directed the Minister of Roads and Bridges to construct 60-kilometer tarmac roads in Western Bahr el Ghazal state.

The head of state made this remark on Saturday during his arrival in Wau, Kiir lamented over poor roads conditions and directed minister Simon Mijok Mijak to embark internal roads construction in Capital Wau.

“I have noticed the condition of your roads, since we are working on road development, we have constructed Juba-Bor Road that connects Malakal to Ayod and Renk,” Kiir told thousands of Wau residents.

“With this, I now direct the Minister of Roads and Bridges to tarmac roads within Wau town,” he added.

On December 2022, President Kiir launched phase two of Juba-Bahr el Ghazal Road in Awerial county of Lakes State, after commissioning the completed 100-kilometer highway part from Juba Terekeka 

The President further added that parents must send girls to schools to contribute in the development of our country.

“No child should stay at home without being taken to school, I urge you to take all the children to school especially girls. Girls are no longer sold for high bride price but must go to school and contribute to development of the country,” President Kiir said.

From his part, the governor of Western Bhar El Ghazal state, Sarah Cleto Rial said the citizens of Wau are in solidarity with the President adding that there is peace and stability in the state.

Ms. Rial acknowledged President Kiir for prioritizing free education in the country, adding that there is need to renovate old schools and hospitals.

She appealed to the national government to increase capacity building for young people and women.
