The leader and Chairperson of the South Sudan National Movement for Change (SSNMC) Moro Genesio and a policy and political analyst at the Institute of Social Policy and Research James Boboya are demanding the Secretary of Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) Peter Lam Both to apologize to the public following a video of him making words of inciting hatred.

Conferring to the short video where Lam can be seen making statement that incites hatred and can lead to violence in-which he accused the Chairperson of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) Dr. Riek Machar who he alleged to be targeting the Dinka tribe.

Speaking to No.1 Citizen Daily Newspaper, Moro made his statement for the SPLM Secretary to apologize based on the fact that every leader should be accountable to the public for his/her words and actions.

“…and of course, every leader directs their followers towards peace and reconciliation and sometimes as human, we make mistakes and when these mistakes are made, we need to put our houses right. Ensure that leaders who have in one way or the other slid out of the need for peace and reconciliation; should be able to apologize to the public,” he stated.

He said that as a citizen and a leader at the same time, so many people look up to them in which they need to portray a good image of themselves and direct the citizens towards peace.

As part of education, Moro said that people need to point out the mistakes that they had gone through that uttering such statement came out at the implementation of the peace agreement.

“Such statements came at a time that is critical to a shared government, that is a government of party(ies), the government that is established on an agreement,” he added.

Meanwhile, Boboya stated that such words are just made to persuade the community where he aerated the speech the President who is also in charge of the party to secure his political state.

“What I can say is that he is making that (statement) as a way to impress the communities in that area where he made the statement and at the same time to also get sympathy from the President,” said Boboya.

“Lam Both actually made that statement as a way of survival within the SPLM party and does not care about reconciliation and peace in this country,” he added.

He further recalled that at the eve of the new year, president Kiir made his statement about promoting peace, reconciliation, forgiveness and development and wondered how Lam Both shot President on his feet about the message the president said.

Boboya also blamed some members of the SPLM who do not understand political ideology and the agenda of the party and urged that Lam should prove the words of the President by apologizing to the public.

He lastly stated about a time that the country will one day be given a chance to choose who they want to lead them that will give powers to the people to make all the leaders accountable.

“These things will pay off when it comes to time of elections in the future because everybody is documenting what everyone is saying,” said Boboya.
