At least 4 herders killed, over 4,000 cows raided in Jonglei

At least about 4 people have been killed and more than four thousand head of cattle were raided after armed criminals attacked part of Padiet Payam in Uror County of Jonglei state on Tuesday.

Uror County Director for Information and Communication, Gatluak Kulang Gai, in a statement, said suspected armed youth from Greater Pibor Administrative Area attacked the village in Padiek Payam killing four people and raiding cattle.

According to him, the incident happened at noon hours in Panther Boma under  Padiet payam of Uror county in which bandit attacked and killed four cattle herders and left with a number of cows.

“Yes, it’s true, the bandit came from the greater Pibor and attacked people Uror [and] four people were killed on the spot and over four thousand cattle were taken by [armed youth],” Gai said.

‘This attack that happened yesterday [Tuesday] there are no any women casualties – the four people that were killed are the cattle herders,” he added.

Mr. Gai condemned the killings and called on the government to deal with the criminals to allow peace to prevail.

He added that no cattle were recovered yet as the youth are still pursuing the attackers, adding that the suspected youth from Pibor is destabilizing the peace in the area on daily basis.

“The [Uror] authority has spokes to the government in greater Pibor and report this case to them about youth who come from this place call Likuangole and other areas come to Uror and attack people and raided cattle,”

Gai called authorities in Greater Pibor to talk sense to their youth and also to respect the 2020 peace that was signed between the two communities.

“I would like to tell the people of Greater Pibor to talk to their youth and let them respect the peace that they have signed in 2020,” he advised.

Authority from Greater Pibor Authority is yet to comment on the matter.
