Authorities in Northern Bahr El Ghazal state, Aweil said four people were burnt to dead by a fire that was reportedly set by a suspect identified as Ngor Ngor Ngor, aged 45.

The state Police Commissioner, Philip Madut Tong told No.1 Citizen on Tuesday that the fire was lit by the suspect on Sunday in Aweil South County.

He said the fire left three children aged 8, 10 and 11 including their old grandmother burnt to dead.

“The fire was started by a man who went to start in a busy area at Majak-goi village. He started the fire around 5-6pm. The children could not see when the grassy area was set ablaze. The old mother was caught by fire,” he narrated.

Madut said that the fire suspect was pursued by the police and was finally caught in Aweil East County.

“The suspect, Ngor Ngor is now in the police custody in Aweil East County and will be transferred to Aweil town for investigation to take its course,” Madut said.

Earlier this month, a fire outbreak had occurred at Panameth neighborhood in Aweil town which resulted to the dead of one minor.

The state fire brigade servicemen, according to Madut, could not do anything unless people work on their own to avoid burning the grasses which results in deaths of locals.

Police commissioner appealed to the locals to avoid leaving children alone in the residences.
