Father arrested for gouging daughter’s eyes

A police corporal in Tonj East County of Warrap state, has reportedly been arrested and expected to face the wrath of law after gouging out his daughter’s eyes last weekend.

According to the county authorities of Tonj east Agany Kuut Achuil, is alleged to have intentionally used cannula, a medical instrument to pierce his 18-year-old daughter’s eyes several times.

The 45-year-old father in question was reported to have first tied his daughter’s hands and legs at night in his house before executing this evil act, said Sgt. Dongrin Marial, head of criminal investigation department in Tonj East County.

Speaking to No.1 Citizen Daily Newspaper yesterday, the minister for information Warrap state William Wol Mayom said that they heard about the incident on Friday from the local authorities of Tonj East County.

“It happened in an area called Paliang Payam Tonj East County and we have to make verification from the right authorities before we could confirm it officially but the information got was from the Boma administrators that the suspect was arrested,” William confirmed the incident.

Police Sgt. Marial however revealed that preliminary investigation, stated that Kuut 45 was disappointed by his daughter Akuot after her first marriage failed. But Akuot is yet to narrate her side of the story.

Meanwhile the suspect is said to have confessed accusing his daughter of practicing bad behaviors by cutting short her marriage and moved on to another man, and in this case, she would teach other young children and that amounts to tarnishing his name, saying it was better to cause blindness to his daughter so that she could not see men again.

However, Dr. Agany Agany Monychol, director of Tonj South main referral hospital, confirmed that the eyes of the victim were completely destroyed, he said that the victim will be referred to Juba for further treatment.

“We have an option to refer the victim to Juba to attend further treatment but we are not hoping so much for her to see again because her eyes were severely damaged by the incident” he said.

Until his arrest Kuut who has other children including an older daughter was also a health worker at a health facility in Tonj North County.

South Sudan penal code 2008 categories permanent deprivation of the sight of an eye or the hearing of an ear or the power of speech under grievous hurt, whoever voluntarily causes grievous hurt will be punished with imprisonment for a term not exceeding ten years and may be liable to a fine article 238(2).
