Western Equatorial state Governor, Alfred Futuyo Karaba has promised to finish the Yambio Freedom square shelter and kick off the rehabilitation of Gbudue stadium to help boost sporting activities in the state.
On Monday governor Futuyo also pledged to support the local football association (LFA) champion as they will represent the state in the national league to be held in Juba next month.
“We will finish the work of our freedom square shelter that has been on hold for a while now and next will be to rehabilitate Gbudue stadium,” Futuyo said.
The governor was addressing a huge crowd of football supporters at Yambio freedom square over the Easter holidays.
Governor Futuyo urged the youth of Western Equatoria State to maintain peace and distance themselves from politics.
Meanwhile the president of Yambio local Football Association (YLFA) Joseph Ndepi in his remarks called for government support towards sport and urged the business people, both local and national companies to step in and support football in the state.
In his message to the state authority, Mr. Ndepi said as YLFA they are losing income since games are played in open places that no one can pay a coin to watch the games depriving the local FA the opportunity to generate income for sports.
“It’s making it hard for clubs and association to develop financially. As such rehabilitating the stadium is the most important gift the government can gift Yambio LFA within this time”.
Meanwhile the director general in the state ministry of Culture Youth and sports Mr. Silvano Bring said as ministry they are working on organizing a tournament that will bring all the ten counties of Western Equatoria State to play in one tournament.
Governor Futuyo further donated 200, 000 South Sudanese Pounds to the two teams (Nile City FC and Al Taharil).
