By Hou Akot Hou

Patients with Tuberculosis disease admitted at Nyamlel Primary Health Care center in Aweil West county of Northern Bahr El Ghazal state are in urgent need of food to supplement their treatment.

The health center Director, Lual Khamis Lual said Friday that dozens of the patients suffering from Tuberculosis have been battling the disease and severely need food to help them get better treatment.

Khamis said that World Food Programme had pulled out the feeding program which was aimed at helping patients get bulk of drugs and supplement the treatment with food distribution to their households.

“The WFP had pulled out last year and we have got dozens of patients here who can’t get food as we give them a lot of drugs that need food to help them function well in the bodies” Lual said.

He said there are at least seven patients with severe cases whom they are struggling to help but the rest go without feeding.

“I want to appeal to the rest of the residents in the county and beyond that our government through the state’s Ministry of health has availed TB drugs to us but these need feeding as they are essential drugs that can’t be inhaled without food. If possible the well-wishers could help in stepping in” he advised.

Last week, the Nyamlel PHCC had received a testing machine, leading to a call from the health officials urging people to come for treatment in the nearby vicinity.

Tuberculosis is a bacterial infection that makes adult cough, sneeze and it affects the lungs which is also a killer disease if not well maintained.
