NBGs: Parents urged to rush children for measles vaccination

By Hou Akot Hou

Parents have been urged to take advantage of vaccinating their children against measles, in Northern Bahr el Ghazal state before days run out for the lifesaving jab.

The coordinator for Expanded Immunization Programme, (EPI) for Northern Bahr El Ghazal state Santino Ngong Chan made the appeal on Monday,

“The measles campaign is coming to an end. Parents have to maximize this opportunity before the deadline elapses. It is the right time for parents to bring their children for vaccination,” he emphasized.

Ngong disclosed that the measles vaccines were free.

The EPI state coordinator emphasized that parents who fail to vaccinate their children at the designated centres could access the vaccines in the health facilities any time after the exercise.

“Take your child to the nearest facility if you have not taken the child to any of the measles vaccination centers. The WHO has given this opportunity to the parents free of charge,” he stressed.

Measles is deadly infectious disease that affects both adults and children. It presents symptoms such as rashes, reddish eyes and difficulty in breathing, often causing death to an infected patient, if not treated.
