The only secondary school in Madhol payam of Aweil East County in Northern Bahr El Ghazal, constructed in 2010 with the Constituency Development Fund, (CDF), is undergoing rehabilitation after it had been blown off by wind.
Well-wishers including the prominent politicians who hail from the area have, of late, been contributing money to repair the school.
The county authorities led by the commissioner on Tuesday 9th May 2023 visited the school to assess the parts that need to be fixed.
Santino Bol Akot, the Director General for Northern Bahr El Ghazal state said Jak-Yar Company has been contracted to renovate the school as students relocate elsewhere.
“We have asked the teaching staff to relocate the students as the contractor covers the parts blown off and fix other damaged areas and make it conducive for the learners,” he said.
Mr. Bol also asked the community in and around the school to support the builders in any indispensable manner.
“I would like to appeal to those neighboring the school to render any support to the builders so that they complete their work while at peace” he stressed.
Mr. Bol noted that the population of the students living in the area without pursuing high school is huge as most people travel to Aweil town and other states.
Alexander Kuol Makuach, a member of Aweil Youth group engineered the idea of renovating the school through Facebook post which received a lot of positive reactions since November last year.
Contributions for the renovation of the school trickled in from within and others, as far as Canada, Australia, United States, while including area politicians based in Juba.
Benjamin Bol Mel, an advisor on Special affairs in the Office of the President, is among political figures contributing generously to renovate and revive the only secondary school Madhol payam.
Sources disclosed to No. 1 Citizen daily Newspaper that, last week, Mr. Bol Mel contributed a total of SSP 38 million, towards renovation of the school.
Construction of Madhol secondary school caused uproar, years back, as some politicians were labeled corrupt for contracting a company that performed shoddy work with weak materials leading to collapse and crack of most parts of the building.
