Aweil municipal council in Northern Bahr El Ghazal has started clearing internal roads within the town.
The town mayor, Zecharia Dut Mou, said the project targets 51-km road network within the town, including repairing of others in Hai Mozibin, Naifasha, Malou-Awer, and Deng Nhial, among others.
He said the road construction is funded by Africa Resources Cooperation, which has contracted the GMC local company to implement the project.
“We have nine roads being cut off by roads, and we are heading towards Kuom Bridge. Now we have put in culverts that drain water to the swampy area,” the mayor said.
According to him, improving the roads will boost local economy in the targeted areas.
Mr. Dut said they want to finish the work on the road repairs in the town within the month of June.
Adut Deng, a resident of Naifasha, felt moved by the feeder road network rehabilitation work.
“This work is great. The local supplies will be reaching us, and these are services we have been yearning for. Thanks to the implementers,” said Ms. Deng.
Many people in the town have been decrying the lack of good roads, especially in the rainy season, as some get cut off during the rainy season.
