Returnees receive Chinese food aid

By Ngor Deng

Government of the People’s Republic of China has donated food items to the returnees in northern Bahr el Ghazal state, Aweil.

The donation was channeled through the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management.

Northern Bahr El Ghazal State (NBGs) Chairperson for the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission, Mr. Dut Majookdit, said three trucks carrying rice arrived in Aweil town on Monday, June 12, 2023.

Last week, the NBG government said that it identified 16,443 returnees who are natives of Aweil but stranded in the Upper Nile state border towns of Renk and Paloch after fleeing war in Sudan.

Fifty (50) of those returnees were airlifted from Renk to Aweil in a flight chartered by the state authorities with support from the national government.

Speaking to the media yesterday, Dut Majookdit appreciated the Chinese government’s support for the returnees.

“We appreciate the Chinese government and the government of South Sudan for the facilitation of these food items.

The returnees are going to be integrated into five counties of NBGs, and this food especially the donated rice will be distributed to them (returnees) in their respective counties, payams, and boma levels according to our policies,” Dut revealed.
