Opposition party suspends senior members

By Malek Arol
National Democratic Movement (NDM) party led by Dr. Lam Akol has suspended three of its high-ranking members for refusing to resign.

The members suspended are Dr. Gatluak Nyang Hoth, Commissioner of Mayendit County of Unity State and Mr. Nyok Malual Mayiik, Commissioner of Pigi County of Jonglei State.

Mr. Yoannes William Ojwok, Chairman of the RRC in Upper Nile State is the third casualty of the recent political sword.

The National Executive Committee of the NDM, in 21st June meeting, suspended the three members who are currently serving the unity government in various capacities under the NDM ticket.

The party also revoked their nominations to those positions and directed them to tender their resignations, but they refused to comply with the order, triggering their suspension.

The NDM national executive committee further formed a disciplinary committee to investigate the trio for allegedly violating the provisions of the Basic Rules of the NDM, 2016 (as amended).

However, responding to the suspension, Dr. Gatluak Nyang Hoth disputed any meeting that led to their indefinite suspension from the party.

“No meeting was conducted on the 21st of June, and the document circulating is fake. No member, including Dr. Lam Akol, can suspend my membership in the party because I’m the founder,” he exclaimed.

According to Dr. Gatluak Nyang Hoth they formed the party collectively, and no member has a right to suspend the other.

Dr. Gatluak added that the date agreed upon for the meeting was 22nd of June (today) so that the members can sit down and look into the issue.

“Following the claim that I have refused to resign, it should be known that people resign when they have committed mistakes, but I have not committed any mistake since I assumed my office,” he defended.

He instead faulted the party chairman, Dr. Lam Akol.

“The one to resign is Dr. Lam Akol because he is the Chairman of the party and has been out of his duty station since the RT-GoNU was formed,” Dr. Gatluak concluded.
