Tragic accident kills two in Unity State

A tragic head-on collision involving a motorcycle and a truck in Bentiu, Unity State has left two people dead.

According to the state traffic police, the incident occurred at 11Am on Sunday morning.

One person died on the spot, while the other, the motorcycle rider, passed away later at Bentiu State Hospital.

The deceased were identified as Kume Wierol Koang, 29 years old; the motorcycle rider and Maliah Biel Nyuon, 34 years old.

The State Director of Traffic Police, Domai Dak Kai, blamed the road accident that occurred between the Unity State capital, Bentiu, and Rubkona County, on over-speeding.

“There was a Truck moving at high speed from Bentiu headquarters to Rubkona town, it hit the motorcycle and killed the rider, and one passenger was killed also,” Dak narrated the incident.

Dak disclosed that the truck driver was arrested pending investigations.

“After the incident, the first thing we did was arrest the suspect, and he is being detained at Bentiu police station until the investigation continues and is completed very soon,” Dak said.

The traffic police officer extended his condolences to the two victims’ families and urged them to remain calm as investigations continued.

The traffic officer warned drivers against over speeding and advised cyclist to only carry one passenger at a time.

Meanwhile, Taker Riak Koang, the chairperson of motorists in Unity State, said that accidents are also common between Bentiu and Rubkona due to over speeding.

“I condemned the deaths of my colleagues who were killed and the passenger who lost his life in an accident on Sunday,” he said.

Taker appealed the government of Unity State to give directives to company drivers to move at a minimum speed while traveling along Bentiu and Rubkona towns.
