By Jurugo Emmanuel Ogasto

South Sudanese Student’s Association in Malaysian Universities has urged leaders in the country to embrace the spirit of peaceful coexistence and unity.

The students made the appeal in Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, ahead of South Sudan’s 12th Independence anniversary.

The event in Kuala Lumpur was marked under the theme “United in a common course towards Technology and economic freedom”.

Speaking to No. 1 Citizen Daily Newspaper from Lumpur, David Deng Bol, the President of the Association, said it is time to reflect on the sacrifices made by the liberators for 21 years.

Mr. Deng revealed that they will be joined by Malaysian institutional leaders, religious leaders, and Diplomats in commemorate the day.

“We have invited institutional leaders in Malaysia and other stakeholder groups to celebrate the day with us,’’ he added.

The student leader also noted that the acting Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Deng Dau Deng, is expected to be their guest of honor.

South Sudan gained independence from Sudan on July 9, 2011, as the outcome of a referendum vote in session following the 2005 comprehensive peace agreement that ended Africa’s longest-running civil war.
