Joyous moments come to an end. As Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) Supporters who converged at Wau, Western Bahr El Ghazal State, for a splendid rally, at last, retreat home.
Northern Bahr El Gazal state Minister of Information, William Anyuon Kuol, said that SPLM supporters from Bahr El Gazal region and Abyei Area are returning after endorsing Salva Kiir as party flag bearer.
Anyuon told this outlet on the phone that after they had endorsed Kiir, celebrations continued, but most of the supporters immediately departed for their homes.
“This showcases the love for the President to still head the nation and the SPLM as a party that is ruling,” he said.
Kiir’s endorsement as the party’s flag bearer for the December 2024 elections triggered happiness among the supporters who were donning in the party’s customary red T-shirt and cap, painting Wau red.
One of the youths who opted for anonymity expressed his opinion on the suitability of Kiir being nominated as party flag bearer for the polls.
“Why always be dependent on one person? There is a mess in the nation, and a new face could help salvage the state of affairs on national issues,” he questioned.
It remains to be seen how the elections will be held as some outstanding issues in the revitalized agreement, especially the roadmap, are yet to be implemented while only 17 months are remaining.
