Salva Kiir amasses more support for 2024 polls

By Hou Akot Hou

Thousands of people, on Monday, gathered at Madhol playground, Aweil Town to thank President Salva Kiir Mayardit for entrusting their community members to serve in the unity government.

Sudan People Liberation Movement (SPLM) supporters and government officials were among the mammoth that stormed arena.

The community members also expressed their support President Kiir and expectance to vote for him in the anticipated 2024 presidential polls.

Several speakers at the occasion praised the head of state for appointing their sons from the area to work with him, adding that it was great work done.

The appointees that excite the people include Benjamin Bol Mel, former Chief Executive Director for Africa Resources Cooperation, (ARC), now an envoy for the president’s special affairs.

Mr. Benjamin Bol Mel has also been appointed as First Deputy SPLM Secretary General for Mobilisation.

Appointment of former commissioner of Aweil East County, Kiir Yor Lual, as Executive Director in the office of the president, is another opportunity that the community celebrated.

Addressing the celebrants, Executive Chief, Yel Aguer Geng, who hails from Malual Baai Payam, said that they were happy for appointments the two gentlemen.

“The appointment of Bol Mel and Kiir Yor has signaled the symbol of love of the area by the President, and we need to stand firm with him even during elections,” Yel affirmed to the crowd.

He appeals to Bol Mel, who handles the road projects, to ask his working men on the road to install culverts on highways as well as homes routes, adding that crops were destroyed last year due to flooding caused by highways that didn’t have culverts.

Another Executive Chief of Great Ajuongdit, Lual Malong Yor, called on the appointed sons, Kiir and Bol, to put their eyes down on pressing issues facing the community.

He said it is time to act by implementing what they promise to the impoverished masses, including those in far-flung sections of Abiem where services are rare in hard-to-reach areas.

The state minister for information, Mr. William Anyuon Kuol, who was delegated by governor Tong Aken Ngor to grace the occasion, said the intent of storming the area with a lot of buses and cars full of SPLM supporters and officials was to pass a message of gratitude solely to the president and his appointing authorities.

“We crowded here in Madhya Pradesh on Monday to showcase our support for the president, and we need to do the same on most occasions when the appointment is done”.

“This is a milestone of development, and such workforce coming from the area, can change the affairs, as the president has a heart for development, and when elections come, we need to support him,” he stated.

Some people question why campaigns have been started and pressing issues have not been implemented in the agreement; this casts doubt on the frankness of the ruling party in making the agreement a real pact.
