Army assures refugees of safety

South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) has assured Sudanese refugees in Aweil of safety and security across the borders and camp sites.

The military 3rd Infantry Division commander in Northern Bahr El Ghazal State, Maj. General Akuei Ajou Akuei expressed the army’s readiness to protect its people and territory along Sudan borders.

“We in the SSPDF are keen to protect the people of South Sudan, its territory, and its property as enshrined in the law,” he said.

He urged citizens to welcome the refugees to the safe haven, Northern Bahr El Ghazel State.

“As you are all aware that NBGs is hosting many refugees and Returnees from Sudan, we promise that SSPDF is ready to protect everyone in order to stay safe,” he continued.

Meanwhile, UNHCR representative in South Sudan, Mrs. Juliet Muoriet Kay, appreciated the people of Aweil for wholeheartedly hosting Sudanese refugees.

“We appreciate NBGs people for hosting Sudanese Refugees very warmly.”

The UNHCR representative appreciated the people of NBGs for providing full support to the refugees, especially in security and hospitality.

“Let us work in peace; let us give unity to ourselves; let us give education to our children. We were happy to see the peaceful coexistence among the host communities and refugees,” Mrs. Juliet expressed.

Northern Bahr el Ghazal state is hosting over 4,000 refugees who fled conflict in Sudan since mid-April this year.
