Man remanded over defilement

Authorities in Aweil North County, Northern Bahr El Ghazal State, are holding a 16-year-old boy for reportedly defiling an eight-year-old girl.

According to the police investigator, Mr. Garang Mathiang Kuach, the boy identified as Ajor Ngong Ngong allegedly defiled the girl at their home in Matwic village in Pamaat Payam, Aweil North County.

The police detective said the girl who was defiled was rushed to Aweil Hospital for treatment, and a probe into the matter awaits the victim.

“We are investigating the matter, but the survivor is still in the hospital, so we need both sides to get the full story,” he said. “The information was tipped to us, and we had to bring the perpetrator to us here.”

The accused is being remanded at Gok-Machar, the county headquarters, awaiting the investigation when the survivor recovers fully.

Medics at Aweil Hospital confirmed the incident, saying the survivor of the defilement case is still being treated.

Marach Ngong Ngong, the health officer at Aweil State Hospital, said the survivor is recovering, but tests are still being done.

“We don’t know whether there is damage to the uterus as she is still young, but treatment is going well” he continued “If there are no damages to her private parts, then well and good”.

Last year, a Sudanese man in Aweil defiled a young girl, Abuk Lual, whom he subsequently killed and dumbed in a pit latrine.

The man was sentenced to death to pay the price of his action.

Authorities urged the public to report such cases of rape and defilement, as they are hardly talked about due to stigmatization.
