Returnees receive food assistance

By Ngor Deng Matem

National Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, on Monday, provided food aid to more than 600 returnees’ households in Gokmachar, Aweil North County, Northern Bahr El Ghazal State.

Each home received a 50-kg sack of rice, according to Mr. Dut Majokdit, state chairperson of the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC).

According to Majokdit, 52,000 South Sudanese refugees are now staying in Northern Bahr El Ghazal State as a result of the country’s ongoing instability in Sudan.

“In the state here, we are hosting 6,570 refugees at Wadwil transit camp,” he noted.

The RRC state chairperson commended the Humanitarian organisations for supporting the refugees.

“I am urging the humanitarian agencies in the country to support the returnees in terms of shelters, health, nutrition, and food as they are fully reintegrated to their respective counties in the state,” he appealed.

Agol Deng Mou, one of the returnees, said the support given will fill some gaps in their family.

“Free service is always big and must be appreciated. So, I accept that we received rice today, and we are hopeful that more support will be given as we get integrated,” she said.
